Umbreon

December 16, 2014

I feel almost cruel if there isn’t an Umbreon to go along with Espeon, so I had to make one straight away. I was really glad I was able to find some red safety eyes online! This Umbreon crochet pattern is nice and simple so it’s a perfect project for beginners. You can easily adjust the colours as well to make a shiny version!

You can purchase and ad-free PDF of this pattern over on my Ravelry or Etsy, and if you do a huge thank-you in advance for your wonderful support! You can also find a diy crochet kit on my Etsy which has all the materials you need to make your own!

What materials will you need?

Note some of the links on this site are affiliate links. This means I get paid a small fee if you decide to purchase anything at no extra cost to you. I will only ever link products I happily use myself.

  • 3.00mm crochet hook
  • black yarn
  • yellow yarn
  • yellow felt
  • polyester felt
  • 2x 10mm red safety eyes

I got my red safety eyes originally from situer on Etsy, who is unfortunately no longer open. You can also find them from glasseyesonline, or I’ve had luck on ebay as well.

Putting it all together

Next stuff the head, body, legs, and tail. You can also stuff the ears and arms if you want, but they are small enough that they don’t need it. I like to pin all of the items in place to get an idea of placement before attaching them.

image

I usually attach them in this order: legs, tail, arms, ears and head. Before I attach the head though, I glue on the felt circles.

image

You want to take some yellow felt and cut out 5 hollow circles. You could also choose to embroider the circles on, which is a little less time consuming, or create a chain with your yellow yarn and sew those on for a more seamless look. You’ll need the two smallest circles for the arms, two slightly larger ones for the legs, and the largest circle is for the middle of the forehead.

Glue the circles on your doll.

Done! Umbreon is quite simple and easy to put together (apart from painstakingly cutting out circles haha). I hope you’ve had a great time making your Umbreon crochet doll, and if you share on Instagram or Tumblr, don’t forget to tag @53stitches so I can check it out.
