About Me

I started 53stitches in 2014 after being inspired by some amazing (I now realise) knitted dolls. I made my first little crocheted monkey doll a couple of weeks later, and then I was hooked for good. This blog is a chance to give back to the wonderful community that provided so many free patterns and tutorials when I was starting out.

This was a one off doll I made a few years ago but I'm so glad I took photos of it because I love how it turned out. The character is Flemeth, from Dragon Age, and I have always loved her dragon horn hair. Who's excited to have some more DA4 news this year hopefully! ⁣

Charlotte the sloth and her sunflowers! I've been in chilly South Korea on holiday and was so happy for the cold weather after the sweltering summer we had in Brisbane the last few months. I'm loving both the cold weather and the beautiful spring flowers beginning to poke their heads out here 🌸 Inspired to work on my garden when I get home (but will I?).⁣

When I was working on my recent Bunny pattern, there's a point before the ears are attached that it could totally be a squishy Baymax. I made this design a while ago now but I still love how cute and round he is. One day I'll have to make a version with chunky yarn - I bet he would be soo squishy 😍⁣

New in the store this weekend, just in time for Ea

New in the store this weekend, just in time for Easter! I’ve wanted to add chunky yarn kits for a while, but it can be a bit tricky to work with for beginners so I wanted to find a way to make that a bit easier. The resources that come with the pattern have a bunch of tips and tricks, and I’ve added a little carrot accessory in regular DK weight yarn so you can get familiar with stitches before they disappear in chunky yarn!

New pattern release! I’m a couple of weeks behin

New pattern release! I’m a couple of weeks behind on my “what I made this week” videos because I’ve been spending most of my time on the pattern for this lil guy instead! I always underestimate how much work is going to go into even a simpler design like this one, but I wanted to include some tips and tricks for working with chenille yarn because I struggled with it a bit at the start too!

This is a low-see bunny pattern (most of it’s worked in one piece but the ears and carrot are sew in place), and has instructions for the super squishy bunny and it’s little carrot accessory. Just in time for Easter! I had a lot of fun making the little carrots, I could easily make 10 more and give this guy a carrot swimming pool.

Still my favourite Genshin Impact character and also a super cute design to convert to amigurumi. I've only made a few Genshin dolls so far, and haven't gotten around to writing up the patterns for them because they are detailed! I've made Kazuha, Hu Tao, Kaeya and Yae Miko - which character would you want to see next and are Genshin patterns something you would want, even if they're a bit finnicky with details? ⁣

New pattern release! I’m a couple of weeks behind on my “what I made this week” videos because I’ve been spending most of my time on the pattern for this lil guy instead!
