Double crochet

January 1, 2013

Before inserting your hook in the next stitch, yarn over.

Now insert your hook into the stitch.

Yarn over again and pull through.

You now have 3 loops on your hook.

Yarn over and pull through 2 of the loops.

There should be 2 loops left on the hook.

Yarn over and draw through the remaining loops.

Done!

The double crochet isn’t used too often in amigurumi, but it’s still has it’s uses! It’s a great stitch to know for more traditional crochet projects, such as sweaters or blankets. And it works up faster than the single crochet since it’s a taller stitch. You can see the double crochet used in some of my patterns, such as Vaporeon, Jolteon and the Victor and Yuri patterns. In these patters I use the stitch alongside single crochet and half double crochets to build up a triangle.
